  • IS PORTFOLIO NIGHT REALLY A BIG DEAL?

The reality is that getting the attention of the best creatives in town is very challenging. Having the opportunity to let them go over your work is rare. Portfolio night is your chance to improve your book and make valuable connections that will help you get your foot in the door.

  • WHO SHOULD ATTEND PORTFOLIO NIGHT?

Portfolio night is geared towards students interested in a career in the advertising and design industries. Areas of focus typically include: art direction, copywriting, design, interactive, motion graphics and illustration.

    CAN ONLY STUDENTS PARTICIPATE?

Portfolio night is not exclusively for students or any particular college or university. We welcome anyone trying to break into a career in advertising or design.

  • DO I NEED A PORTFOLIO TO PARTICIPATE?

Yes and no. Portfolio night is divided into two sections. The first is a Q&A session with a few of the top local CDs. Here you’ll gain valuable insight and have questions about the creative industry answered. You do not need a portfolio for this portion of the event. The second portion will be the one-on-one reviews of your work and requires a portfolio.

  • HOW MANY PIECES SHOULD I HAVE IN MY PORTFOLIO?

All portfolio reviews are about the quality and not the quantity of your work. Bring your best work even if it’s only a few pieces. Please have no more than 10 pieces in your book.

    DOES PORTFOLIO NIGHT COST ANYTHING?

No. Portfolio night is free. Keep in mind that if you park at ASU for the event you’ll need to pay for parking.

  • DO I NEED TO HAVE ALL MY WORK PRINTED OR CAN I USE MY LAPTOP TO PRESENT?

You can present whichever way you like. If you are showing interactive work or motion graphics we would encourage you to use a laptop or tablet.

  • CAN I CHOOSE THE REVIEWERS I GET TO SEE?

The first students to arrive will get to choose their first reviewer. During the one-on-one session you are welcome to wait to see a specific reviewer but this may cut down on the number of total reviews you have.

  • WHAT ELSE SHOULD I BRING TO PORTFOLIO NIGHT?

A pen and paper for notes are useful. Copies of your resume, business cards and a leave behind are also nice to have but not necessary.

  • IS THERE A DRESS CODE?

In the creative world most people are pretty laid-back. Wear whatever makes you feel comfortable.

  • WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT TO GET FROM PORTFOLIO NIGHT?

Most importantly we want you to get constructive feedback. This is your time to make your book better. It is also a good idea to exchange info so you can keep in touch with the professionals you meet.
